The last time St. John's has finished in the top 3 of a Tier 1 college tournament was the 2010-11 season at the same event. That year, the team narrowly missed out on winning the event by 55 pins. This year, the team fell quite a bit behind the leader West Texas A&M, but was in contention for second place throughout the entire event.
Day 1 saw the team 50 pins out of 2nd behind Iowa Central Community College. Senior Will Blanco earned All-Tournament Team honors by shooting a 1,318 series for six games, and Brandon Soedarmasto was right behind him at 1,306, which was good for eighth place overall. Every Johnny that started finished in the top 25 in the event, and the low man on the day shot a 1,207 set.
Day 2 featured 12 2-game baker matches, and the team struggled with poor carry and inconsistency, but they managed to stave off a late run by Hastings College and snag third place in the event. The team also shot a 290 in game 20 of competition.
Next on the schedule will be the EIBC conference tournament, which is a one day event that will take place at Knob Hill Lanes in Manalapan, NJ on February 4th.
